AMA At It Again! Kicks -Off Historic Maiden Edition Of AMA Women Unity Football Championship In Ikorodu Constituency II

While the ongoing 3rd edition of AMA U18 Star Youth Football Championship initiated and sponsored by the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), entered the quarter -final stages at the weekend, another historic tournament – AMA Women Unity Football Championship, got underway in spectacular fashion.

Eight teams drawn from the three LCDAs in Ikorodu Constituency II – Igbogbo/Baiyeku, Ijede and Imota, commenced battled in the maiden edition of the female tournament aimed at promoting female football, youth engagement, unity, and community development.

The championship is featuring three teams from Ijede LCDA, three teams from Imota LCDA, and two teams from Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, creating a truly constituency-wide platform for women’s football talents to shine.

Football fans were treated to exciting encounters across the four centres, with goals, tactical battles, stunning saves, and passionate performances defining an unforgettable opening weekend.

The curtain-raiser of the tournament at Ijede centre lived up to expectations as Bashorun Ladies and Oreyo Ladies engaged in a fiercely contested battle with Bashorun Ladies winning 1 – 0, to secure the first victory of the championship.

At Imota centre, Araromi Ladies were ruthless against their hosts, Mayflower Ladies, defeating them 4 goals to nil. The team produced the performance of the weekend with an impressive attacking masterclass against their opponents.

The emphatic victory sends a strong warning to every team in the championship that Araromi Ladies are serious contenders for the title.

After an intense battle from start to finish at the Igbogbo centre, Elepe Ladies emerged victorious with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Igbopa Ladies.

Supporters at the Igbogbo centre witnessed one of the most entertaining encounters of the opening round with both teams attacking with purpose, creating several scoring opportunities. Igbopa Ladies showed great fighting spirit, but Elepe Ladies demonstrated superior finishing ability when it mattered most.

The Ibeshe Ladies and Ebute Ajebo Ladies played out a goalless draw at the Elepe centre. While the score line may have remained blank, the action certainly did not as both teams produced a disciplined and tactical display, with defenders and goalkeepers taking centre stage. Several promising attacks were thwarted by excellent defending, while the goalkeepers made crucial saves to preserve the deadlock.

In the end, the spoils were shared as both teams earned a point in the closely contested encounter.
